WHAT ARE VERTICAL LIFT MODULES AND HOW ARE THEY BENEFICIAL?

POSTED IN: Vertical Lift Modules 04/02/2020

Many companies have storage space issues, and are looking for ways to streamline their operations.

It can be physically and mentally taxing to be constantly traveling from one end of the facility to another looking, for the products or goods necessary to complete their task. There is ample evidence of the connection between physical and mental health.

For warehouse workers, however, whose jobs can be both physically and mentally demanding, recognizing and accommodating those limitations will increase the safety, comfort, and happiness of our employees. It can also lead to a more optimized workflow and save the company some serious money as well.

One solution that’s quickly becoming adopted across many industries, called vertical lift modules, is a great example of modernizing warehouse operations in a way that benefits the employees and the business at the same time.

WHAT ARE VERTICAL LIFT MODULES

VLM’s are storage systems consisting of two enclosed columns of trays, divided by a space in the middle where products and goods can be inserted and retrieved. They help automate the storage, retrieval, and inventory management of your products, and can increase the productivity of your workers by up to 2/3rds.

With vertical lift modules, a series of trays house your products and goods, and upon request, the specific item you are looking for will be brought to you, rather than having to scramble horizontally across the storage area to look it, then retrieve, the product after it’s located. When an employee’s arm span is no longer a limitation, products can be arranged vertically rather horizontally, reducing square footage up to 90% compared to traditional storage methods.

These VLM’s are built for durability, with an internal steel frame and pre-coated exterior panels. Employees interact with the machine through a user-friendly interface on the attached touch screen console.

VERTICAL LIFT MODULES OPTIMIZE STORAGE CAPACITY

In addition to optimizing the square footage for your storage, using a vertical lift will likely decrease the actual volume required to store them as well.

This is because the lift scans the dimensions of each item and arranges them to maximize storage efficiency. This takes the guesswork out of organizing and storing units and loads of various shapes.

THEY SAVE EMPLOYEES TIME AND LABOR

Using vertical lifts also reduces the amount of unnecessary and often dangerous tasks for employees. When storing and retrieving goods becomes the task of the vertical lift system, humans are spared from an uncountable amount of time scrambling back and forth, searching for, and often risking injury to store or retrieve goods.

In addition to the improvements in their safety and comfort, employees will save significant time storing items, and tracking/retrieving them later, as well as organizing the space and managing their inventories.

This opens up their time for the more interesting and value-added components of their job, like helping customers or seeking process improvements.
